Home / Wall Soundproofing Solutions

If you research wall soundproofing solutions there are a lot of different types of soundproofing materials that can be used. The easiest way to simplify the method is a slim line or decoupling solutions.

The slim line solution is around 50mm (2-3 inches) thick and is a stick-on solution.

The decoupling solution is around 120mm (7-8 inches) thick and are more labour intensive and takes up more space but offers a better noise improvement.

M20 Wall Panel:

If space is a concern, this solution is the one for you to reduce airborne noise such as music, conversations or TV noise. Stick the M20 panels to the wall with spray glue and then adding 2 layers of acoustic plasterboard helps give the wall more density.

Space lost approx. 45 mm (approx. 1-2 inches)

Estimated Airborne Improvement: 50%

By replacing the first layer of acoustic board with dB15 Soundboard you can improve your system, adding additional mass and density will have an all-round improvement by an additional 20%.

Resilient Bar Wall for Stud Walls:

This solution will improve the airborne noise with minimal space lost. It provides density by fitting acoustic wool between the studs and separation with the resilient bar before fitting 2 layers of acoustic plasterboards.

Space lost approx. 31 mm (approx. 1-2 inches)

Estimated Airborne Improvement: 45%

Genie Clip Wall:

This solution will help decoupling from the wall and does not take up too much space. Fitting the Genie Clip directly to the wall with the furring channel helps decoupling and fitting acoustic wool between the framework and then adding 2 layers of acoustic plasterboards helps with density to the solution. This system can also be used to reduce impact noise.

Space lost approx. 83 mm (approx. 3-4 inches)

Estimated Airborne Improvement: 50-55%

Independent Wall:

This solution is the most efficient and reduces the airborne noise the most through your party wall. If you have enough space to lose this will be the solution for you. Fitting a stud frame or metal frame with the resilient bar decouples the solution from the wall and by adding acoustic wool between the framework and fitting 2 layers of acoustic plasterboards adds density. This system can also be used to reduce impact noise.

Space lost approx. 120 mm (approx. 4-5 inches)

Estimated Airborne Improvement: 60-65%
